A short guide to stones
The stones we use in our jewellery and what makes each of them special.
KAMĖJA jewellery features semi-precious and natural stones: labradorite, garnet, agate, onyx, mother-of-pearl, amber, cultured freshwater pearls and many more.
In the one-of-a-kind collection each stone is presented individually – we pay special attention to its shape, structure and colour.
What is the difference between precious and semi-precious stones?
Diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald are traditionally called precious stones. The other minerals used in jewellery, along with organic materials, are called semi-precious – no less beautiful, and often more unusual in colour.
Which stones do we use most?
Labradorite is known for its play of colour – turn the stone and blue and green flashes appear on its surface. Onyx is a black variety of agate, and garnet a mineral of deep red.
Amber is fossilised resin of ancient conifers – light and warm to the touch. Pearls and mother-of-pearl are organic, so they are sensitive to perfume, cosmetics and acids.
How to care for jewellery with stones?
Clean stones with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry them straight away. Protect them from knocks and sudden changes of temperature, and put on pieces with pearls or amber last – after perfume and make-up.
