Diamond certification in Lithuania

Clarity, colour and fancy colour diamonds.

Colourless diamonds are the most popular choice, but there is another category on the market – fancy colour diamonds.

On the scale for colourless diamonds, the colourless or nearly colourless ones are the most valuable; with coloured diamonds it is the opposite – the more intense the colour, the more valuable the diamond.

The rarest and most valuable diamonds are red, deep green and dark blue. Yellow diamonds are found more often.

How is a diamond graded?

A diamond’s value rests on four criteria known as the 4Cs: carat weight, colour, clarity and cut.

The colour of white diamonds is graded with letters from D (completely colourless) to Z (a yellowish or brownish tint). Clarity is judged under ten-times magnification – from FL (flawless, no inclusions or blemishes) to I (inclusions visible to the naked eye).

What is a diamond certificate?

A certificate is a report from an independent gemmological laboratory stating the diamond’s weight, colour, clarity, cut and measurements. Reports from international laboratories such as GIA, IGI or HRD are the most widely recognised.

When buying a more valuable diamond, it is worth asking for its certificate – it makes stones comparable and confirms their qualities.
